What I stand For:

I stand for leadership rooted in service and accountability. Student government should exist to represent students faithfully, communicate transparently, and act decisively on the issues that affect everyday campus life. I believe in creating a culture where every student feels heard, where concerns are met with thoughtful solutions rather than silence, and where collaboration replaces division. In building a culture not just of tolerance, but of acceptance; where every student, regardless of background, race, age, gender identity, or sexual orientation is embraced into the community on campus. Whether the issue is affordability, campus engagement, or strengthening communication between students and administration, I am committed to ensuring that our government reflects the needs and aspirations of the entire student body. Together we can build a campus community defined not by titles or positions, but by service.

Who I am

My name is Javier Sanders, and I am a freshman studying Political Science and International Studies, with a minor in History. Since arriving at UCM, I have had the privilege of becoming part of this campus community in ways I never imagined possible. Having been homeschooled from third grade until entering university, I had little experience of belonging to a large academic community, and UCM has transformed that for me. The friendships, organisations, and opportunities I have found here have made me profoundly grateful, and that gratitude is what inspires my commitment to serve. I am actively involved across campus as a member of the Pre-Law Student Association, the International Students Organization, the Mock Trial Team, the Student Government Association, and the UCM Law Journal. Through these organisations, I have seen first-hand the strength, diversity, and potential of our student body, and I have come to appreciate how much can be accomplished when students work together in pursuit of a shared purpose.

Academically, I have long been fascinated by politics, particularly international affairs, and my aspiration is to attend law school and pursue a career in diplomacy through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in London. I believe deeply that public service, whether through civil institutions, community leadership, or government, is one of the highest callings. Service, to me, means listening, representing others faithfully, and working not for recognition, but for the good of those entrusted to you. From my peers at UCM to the broader communities we are part of, I believe every voice deserves to be heard and respected. I am committed to ensuring that student voices are not only acknowledged, but meaningfully represented, and that we may work together, for service.
